In a pavilion at the back of Pura Penataran Sasih, hanging higher than a person can reach, there is a bronze drum 186 centimetres tall. It was made in one piece from poured bronze around 2,300 years ago, and it is the largest object of its kind anywhere in the world.
Nobody can explain how one piece of bronze this large was made here, so long ago.
We prefer the Balinese explanation. A wheel fell from the chariot that carries the moon across the sky, and landed in Pejeng.
You can see it from the courtyard. It is a 10-minute drive.
