Bedroom 1 · Lotus
Glass doors straight onto the deck and the pool. Double basins and a walk-in shower behind, with a screen of green outside the bathroom.

Behind your own gate the resort stops and the house begins. Villa Oia sits at the far north end of the property, on the last plot before the ground falls away to the Petanu. Four bedrooms open onto a single covered living pavilion that has no walls on the valley side, so the house is really one long room with the gorge as its fourth wall.
It is let whole. There is no lock-off, no shared corridor and no other guests: a housekeeper comes with it, the restaurant kitchen sends meals up to the house until ten at night, and the place runs to your hours rather than the resort's. Families take it, and so do groups of friends who have quietly decided they would rather not meet anybody at breakfast.

You will end up planning the evening around this room. Eight sit comfortably around the low table, and the whole west side stands open to the gorge, so the room changes colour twice a day.
Ceiling fans rather than air conditioning in the pavilion: at this height on the valley the air moves on its own after four o'clock.

Glass doors straight onto the deck and the pool. Double basins and a walk-in shower behind, with a screen of green outside the bathroom.

On the garden side, under the frangipani tree. A wall of raw concrete, a writing desk, and doors that open onto the lawn.

The family room: two single beds under one canopy, made up as a queen on request, and a daybed by the window for a child. The shower is outside, and the path to the door runs through heliconia.

Next to the dining terrace. The bath is outside: a freestanding tub in a walled garden of palms, open to the sky.
Nine sleep in the bedrooms (two in each, three in Bedroom 3), and two extra beds, on request at IDR 600,000 each per night, take the house to eleven. The sofa in the media room has been slept on too, though we would not sell it as a bed.

Swim at midnight if you like. Nobody walks past, nobody wants the lounger you left your book on, and the water is yours until the day you leave.
First light over the gorge. Nobody works around the house before you are up: the pool and garden are looked after while you are out, or once the staff have asked whether now is a good time.
Breakfast comes up from Sunset Point from 7:30. It is included if you booked it that way, paid on the spot if not. The path down to the river starts by the main gate.
The shuttle runs to central Ubud four times a day; drivers for the temples are arranged a day ahead.
Lunch on the pool terrace at Sunset Point, or ordered from the same menu and brought up to the house.
The air moves and the pavilion stops needing fans. The spa is a short walk down, or the therapist comes up to the house with a portable table. Book a day ahead either way.
Sunset over the valley, which is the reason every room in this house faces west.
Dinner at the long table, sent up from the restaurant kitchen. Orders go in until 22:00.
The geckos start up. They live on every wall of the house, eat the mosquitoes and were here first. The full story.

The rate comes with or without breakfast, and breakfast can always be added on the spot. Seasonal rates and minimum-stay rules are confirmed when you book. Taxes and service are already inside the rate, so it is the whole sum. Direct booking is never beaten by an OTA.
