Is this place for you?

The Hidden Paradise is not for everyone

People choose this place when they want to feel Bali, not only to stay in it. To hide, not to stand in the middle of the tourist flow. To slow down, not to fit in as much as possible. It is what we are for. It also means we are not for everyone, and it is better to say so here than at check-in.

You will like it here if
  • You want to wake to the jungle, not to an alarm: birds in the morning, cicadas at dusk, the river through the night.
  • A slow breakfast sounds like a plan. The pool, the spa and the shala are on the property, and the day is open.
  • Luxury, to you, is something you feel on your skin: space, quiet, water, good light, a person next to you. Not a lobby.
  • You like the idea of stepping out barefoot in the morning, onto cool stone and wet grass, and of getting caught in the rain once.
  • A calm setting matters more to you than a doorstep on Ubud’s main street. The centre is ten minutes by car, and a free shuttle runs four times a day.
  • You are fine with steps. The property is built down a slope; the shala is 31 steps below the garden level.
  • You are travelling as a couple, or with people who want the same kind of days.
Probably not, if
  • You need a city. It may be too green here.
  • You need a party, or something happening every evening. It is too quiet: our bar closes at 23:00, central Ubud is ten minutes by car, and the last shuttle back leaves town at 17:30.
  • Humidity, rain, insects and a real jungle bother you. It is too alive: geckos on the walls, frogs after the rain, monkeys in the garden. We do not pretend otherwise.
  • Luxury, to you, means marble, gold, a grand lobby and a logo on the towel. You will be happier somewhere else, and that is fine.
  • Steps are hard for you. Getting around the resort says exactly where they are.
  • You are travelling with small children and expect a children’s program. The Premiere Suites are adults only; the other categories take children, but there is no program for them and the pool edges are unfenced.
Before you arrive, know this
  • Check-in from 14:00, check-out by 12:00. Breakfast at Sunset Point 7:30 to 11:00, or in your room at no extra charge.
  • Real sounds, all day and all night: cicadas, frogs after the rain, the Petanu below. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper; you will probably not use them after the first night.
  • Paths are stepped and uneven in places. Flat shoes or sandals with straps are more comfortable than flip-flops.
  • A light layer for the evening: the valley cools after sunset.
  • Fibre Wi-Fi throughout. A free shuttle to central Ubud leaves at 10:00, 13:00, 15:00 and 17:00 and comes back at 13:30, 15:30 and 17:30. Reserve a seat at reception one hour ahead.
